ਦੁਹਾ ਕੰਧਾਰਾ ਮੁਹਿ ਜੁੜੇ ਅਣੀਆਰਾਂ ਚੋਈਆ ॥
duhaa kandhaaraa muhi jurre aneeaaraan choeea |
Both the armies are facing each other and the blood is dripping from the tips of arrows.
ਧੂਹਿ ਕਿਰਪਾਣਾਂ ਤਿਖੀਆ ਨਾਲ ਲੋਹੂ ਧੋਈਆਂ ॥
dhoohi kirapaanaan tikheea naal lohoo dhoeean |
Pulling the sharp swords, they have been washed with blood.
ਹੂਰਾਂ ਸ੍ਰਣਤ ਬੀਜ ਨੂੰ ਘਤਿ ਘੇਰਿ ਖਲੋਈਆਂ ॥
hooraan sranat beej noo ghat gher khaloeean |
The heavenly damsels (houris), surrounding Sranwat Beej, are standing
ਲਾੜਾ ਦੇਖਣ ਲਾੜੀਆਂ ਚਉਗਿਰਦੇ ਹੋਈਆਂ ॥੪੨॥
laarraa dekhan laarreean chaugirade hoeean |42|
Like the brides surrounding the bridegroom in order to see him.42.
ਚੋਬੀ ਧਉਸਾ ਪਾਈਆਂ ਦਲਾਂ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ॥
chobee dhausaa paaeean dalaan mukaabalaa |
The drummer beat the trumpet and armies attacked each other.
ਦਸਤੀ ਧੂਹ ਨਚਾਈਆਂ ਤੇਗਾਂ ਨੰਗੀਆਂ ॥
dasatee dhooh nachaaeean tegaan nangeean |
ਸੂਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਤਨ ਲਾਈਆਂ ਗੋਸਤ ਗਿਧੀਆਂ ॥
sooriaan de tan laaeean gosat gidheean |
With their hands they pulled the naked sword and caused their dance.
ਬਿਧਣ ਰਾਤੀ ਆਈਆਂ ਮਰਦਾਂ ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ॥
bidhan raatee aaeean maradaan ghorriaan |
These devourers of meat were struck on the bodies of the warriors.
ਜੋਗਣੀਆਂ ਮਿਲਿ ਧਾਈਆਂ ਲੋਹੂ ਭਖਣਾ ॥
joganeean mil dhaaeean lohoo bhakhanaa |
The nights of agony have come for the men and horses.
ਫਉਜਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਹਟਾਈਆਂ ਦੇਵਾਂ ਦਾਨਵਾਂ ॥
faujaan maar hattaaeean devaan daanavaan |
The Yoginis have come together speedily in order to drink the blood.
ਭਜਦੀ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਈਆਂ ਰਾਜੇ ਸੁੰਭ ਥੈ ॥
bhajadee kathaa sunaaeean raaje sunbh thai |
They told the story of their repulsion before the king Sumbh.
ਭੁਈਂ ਨ ਪਉਣੈ ਪਾਈਆਂ ਬੂੰਦਾ ਰਕਤ ਦੀਆ ॥
bhueen na paunai paaeean boondaa rakat deea |
The drops of blood (of Sranwat Beej) could not fall on the earth.
ਕਾਲੀ ਖੇਤ ਖਪਾਈਆਂ ਸਭੇ ਸੂਰਤਾਂ ॥
kaalee khet khapaaeean sabhe soorataan |
Kali destroyed all the manifestations of (Sranwat Beej) in the battlefield.
ਬਹੁਤੀ ਸਿਰੀ ਬਿਹਾਈਆਂ ਘੜੀਆਂ ਕਾਲ ਕੀਆਂ ॥
bahutee siree bihaaeean gharreean kaal keean |
The last moments of death came over the heads of many fighters.
ਜਾਣਿ ਨ ਜਾਏ ਮਾਈਆਂ ਜੂਝੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ॥੪੩॥
jaan na jaae maaeean joojhe soorame |43|
The brave fighters could not even be recognized by their mothers, who gave birth to them.43.
ਸੁੰਭ ਸੁਣੀ ਕਰਹਾਲੀ ਸ੍ਰਣਵਤ ਬੀਜ ਦੀ ॥
sunbh sunee karahaalee sranavat beej dee |
Sumbh heard the bad news about the death of Sranwat Beej
ਰਣ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਝਾਲੀ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਆਂਵਦੀ ॥
ran vich kinai na jhaalee duragaa aanvadee |
And that none could withstand the marching Durga in the battlefield.
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਬੀਰ ਜਟਾਲੀ ਉਠੇ ਆਖ ਕੈ ॥
bahute beer jattaalee utthe aakh kai |
Many brave fighters with matted hair got up saing
ਚੋਟਾ ਪਾਨ ਤਬਾਲੀ ਜਾਸਨ ਜੁਧ ਨੂੰ ॥
chottaa paan tabaalee jaasan judh noo |
That drummers should sound the drums because they would go for war.
ਥਰਿ ਥਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੀ ਚਾਲੀ ਦਲਾਂ ਚੜੰਦਿਆਂ ॥
thar thar prithamee chaalee dalaan charrandiaan |
When the armies marched, the earth trembled
ਨਾਉ ਜਿਵੇ ਹੈ ਹਾਲੀ ਸਹੁ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਵਿਚਿ ॥
naau jive hai haalee sahu dareeaau vich |
Like the shaking boat, which is still in the river.
ਧੂੜਿ ਉਤਾਹਾਂ ਘਾਲੀ ਛੜੀ ਤੁਰੰਗਮਾਂ ॥
dhoorr utaahaan ghaalee chharree turangamaan |
The dust arose with the hooves of the horses
ਜਾਣਿ ਪੁਕਾਰੂ ਚਾਲੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਥੈ ॥੪੪॥
jaan pukaaroo chaalee dharatee indr thai |44|
And it seemed that the earth is going to Indra for a complaint.44.

ਆਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਹਰੀਆਂ ਸੈਣ ਸੂਰਿਆਂ ਸਾਜੀ ॥

The willing workers got engaged in work and as warriors they equipped the army.
ਚਲੇ ਸਉਹੇ ਦੁਰਗਸਾਹ ਜਣ ਕਾਬੈ ਹਾਜੀ ॥
chale sauhe duragasaah jan kaabai haajee |
They marched in front of Durga, like pilgrims going for Haj to Kaabah (Mecca).
ਤੀਰੀ ਤੇਗੀ ਜਮਧੜੀ ਰਣ ਵੰਡੀ ਭਾਜੀ ॥
teeree tegee jamadharree ran vanddee bhaajee |
They are inviting the warriors in the battlefield through the medium of arrows, swords and daggers.
ਇਕ ਘਾਇਲ ਘੂਮਨ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਜਣ ਮਕਤਬ ਕਾਜੀ ॥
eik ghaaeil ghooman soorame jan makatab kaajee |
Some wounded warriors are swinging like the Quadis in the school, reciting the holy Quran.
ਇਕ ਬੀਰ ਪਰੋਤੇ ਬਰਛੀਏ ਜਿਉ ਝੁਕ ਪਉਨ ਨਿਵਾਜੀ ॥
eik beer parote barachhee jiau jhuk paun nivaajee |
Some brave fighters are pierced by daggers and lining like a devout Muslim performing prayer.
ਇਕ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਸਉਹੇ ਖੁਨਸ ਕੈ ਖੁਨਸਾਇਨ ਤਾਜੀ ॥
eik duragaa sauhe khunas kai khunasaaein taajee |
Some go in front of Durga in great fury by inciting their malicious horses.
ਇਕ ਧਾਵਨ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਸਾਮ੍ਹਣੇ ਜਿਉ ਭੁਖਿਆਏ ਪਾਜੀ ॥
eik dhaavan duragaa saamhane jiau bhukhiaae paajee |
Some run in front of Durga like the hungry scoundrels
ਕਦੇ ਨ ਰਜੇ ਜੁਧ ਤੇ ਰਜ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਜੀ ॥੪੫॥
kade na raje judh te raj hoe raajee |45|
Who had never been satisfied in the war, but now they are satiated and pleased.45.
ਬਜੇ ਸੰਗਲੀਆਲੇ ਸੰਘਰ ਡੋਹਰੇ ॥
baje sangaleeaale sanghar ddohare |
The enchained double trumpets sounded.
ਡਹੇ ਜੁ ਖੇਤ ਜਟਾਲੇ ਹਾਠਾਂ ਜੋੜਿ ਕੈ ॥
ddahe ju khet jattaale haatthaan jorr kai |
Gathering together in ranks, the warriors with matted hair are engaged in war in the battlefield.
ਨੇਜੇ ਬੰਬਲੀਆਲੇ ਦਿਸਨ ਓਰੜੇ ॥
neje banbaleeaale disan orarre |
The lances bedecked with tassels seem leaning
ਚਲੇ ਜਾਣ ਜਟਾਲੇ ਨਾਵਣ ਗੰਗ ਨੂੰ ॥੪੬॥
chale jaan jattaale naavan gang noo |46|
Like the hermits with matted locks going towards the Ganges for taking a bath.46.

The forces of Durga and demons are piercing each other like sharp thorns.
ਵਾਛੜ ਘਤੀ ਸੂਰਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਖੇਤ ਖਤੰਗਾਂ ॥
vaachharr ghatee sooriaan vich khet khatangaan |
The warriors showered arrows in the battlefield.
ਧੂਹਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣਾ ਤਿਖੀਆਂ ਬਢ ਲਾਹਨਿ ਅੰਗਾਂ ॥
dhoohi kripaanaa tikheean badt laahan angaan |
Pulling their sharp swords, they chop the limbs.
ਪਹਲਾ ਦਲਾਂ ਮਿਲੰਦਿਆਂ ਭੇੜ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਿਹੰਗਾ ॥੪੭॥
pahalaa dalaan milandiaan bherr paaeaa nihangaa |47|
When the forces met, at first there was war with swords.47.

ਓਰੜ ਫਉਜਾਂ ਆਈਆਂ ਬੀਰ ਚੜੇ ਕੰਧਾਰੀ ॥

The forces came in great numbers and the ranks of warriors marched forward
ਸੜਕ ਮਿਆਨੋ ਕਢੀਆਂ ਤਿਖੀਆਂ ਤਰਵਾਰੀ ॥
sarrak miaano kadteean tikheean taravaaree |
They pulled their sharp swords from their scabbards.
ਕੜਕ ਉਠੇ ਰਣ ਮਚਿਆ ਵਡੇ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
karrak utthe ran machiaa vadde hankaaree |
With the blazing of the war, the great egoist warriors shouted loudly.
ਸਿਰ ਧੜ ਬਾਹਾਂ ਗਨ ਲੇ ਫੁਲ ਜੇਹੈ ਬਾੜੀ ॥
sir dharr baahaan gan le ful jehai baarree |
The pieces of head, trunk and arms look like garden-flowers.
ਜਾਪੇ ਕਟੇ ਬਾਢੀਆਂ ਰੁਖ ਚੰਦਨ ਆਰੀ ॥੪੮॥
jaape katte baadteean rukh chandan aaree |48|
And (the bodies) appear like the trees of sandalwood cut and sawed by the carpenters.48.
ਦੁਹਾਂ ਕੰਧਾਰਾਂ ਮੁਹਿ ਜੁੜੇ ਜਾ ਸਟ ਪਈ ਖਰਵਾਰ ਕਉ ॥
duhaan kandhaaraan muhi jurre jaa satt pee kharavaar kau |
When the trumpet, enveloped by the hide of a donkey, was beaten, both the forces faced each other.
ਤਕ ਤਕ ਕੈਬਰਿ ਦੁਰਗਸਾਹ ਤਕ ਮਾਰੇ ਭਲੇ ਜੁਝਾਰ ਕਉ ॥
tak tak kaibar duragasaah tak maare bhale jujhaar kau |
Looking at the warriors, Durga pointedly shot her arrows on the brave fighters.
ਪੈਦਲ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਾਥੀਆਂ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਥ ਗਿਰੇ ਅਸਵਾਰ ਕਉ ॥
paidal maare haatheean sang rath gire asavaar kau |
The warriors on foot were killed, the elephants were killed alongwith the fall of the chariots and horse- riders.
