Sikhism is a monotheistic religion founded in the late 15th century in the Punjab region of South Asia by Guru Nanak Dev Ji and further developed by nine successive Gurus. It emphasizes equality, community service, and devotion to God.

A Gurudwara is a place of worship in Sikhism. It serves as a community center where Sikhs gather for prayer, learning, and communal activities. The central focus of a Gurudwara is the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism.

Maryada refers to the code of conduct and standards of behavior for Sikhs. The Sikh Rehat Maryada outlines the principles and practices that guide the lives of Sikhs, including daily prayers, ethical conduct, and community service.

Langar Sewa is the practice of providing free meals to everyone, regardless of their background, at Gurudwaras. It embodies the Sikh principles of equality, community, and selfless service, where volunteers prepare and serve food to all visitors.

Gurbani refers to the sacred hymns and verses composed by the Sikh Gurus and other saints included in the Guru Granth Sahib. Gurbani reflects the spiritual teachings of Sikhism and is recited during prayers and ceremonies.

Kirtan is the devotional singing of Gurbani. It is an integral part of Sikh worship and is performed in Gurudwaras to express devotion and connect with the divine. Kirtan can be sung in various musical styles and is often accompanied by traditional instruments.

Key customs for Sikh boys include the initiation ceremony known as Amrit Sanchar, the practice of keeping uncut hair (Kesh), wearing the turban (Dastaar), and carrying the ceremonial dagger (Kirpan). These customs symbolize their commitment to Sikh values.

Key customs for Sikh girls include the same initiation into the faith through Amrit Sanchar, keeping uncut hair, and participating in community service through Langar. Girls also wear the turban if they choose, though it is not mandatory.

Sikhs celebrate important occasions such as Guru Nanak Jayanti (the birthday of Guru Nanak), Vaisakhi (the harvest festival and the founding of the Khalsa), and Gurpurabs (anniversaries of the Gurus) with processions, prayers, Kirtan, and community meals in Gurudwaras.

Community is central to Sikhism. Sikhs are encouraged to engage in communal activities, support one another, and participate in Langar and other forms of service. The concept of 'Sangat' (congregation) emphasizes the importance of collective worship and support.
