ਭਈ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਦੇਹੁਰੀਆ ॥
bhee paraapat maanukh dehureea |
You have been blessed with this human body.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਮਿਲਣ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਰੀਆ ॥
gobind milan kee ih teree bareea |
This is your chance to meet the Lord of the Universe.
ਅਵਰਿ ਕਾਜ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਕਾਮ ॥
avar kaaj terai kitai na kaam |
Other efforts are of no use to you.
ਮਿਲੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਭਜੁ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ॥੧॥
mil saadhasangat bhaj keval naam |1|
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, vibrate and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਸਰੰਜਾਮਿ ਲਾਗੁ ਭਵਜਲ ਤਰਨ ਕੈ ॥
saranjaam laag bhavajal taran kai |
Make the effort, and cross over the terrifying world ocean.
ਜਨਮੁ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਜਾਤ ਰੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
janam brithaa jaat rang maaeaa kai |1| rahaau |
This human life is passing away in vain, in the love of Maya. ||1||Pause||
ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਨ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
jap tap sanjam dharam na kamaaeaa |
I have not practiced meditation, penance, self-restraint or righteous living;
ਸੇਵਾ ਸਾਧ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
sevaa saadh na jaaniaa har raaeaa |
I have not served the Holy Saints, and I do not know the Lord, my King.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਨੀਚ ਕਰੰਮਾ ॥
kahu naanak ham neech karamaa |
Says Nanak, my actions are vile and despicable;
ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਕੀ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਰਮਾ ॥੨॥੨੯॥
saran pare kee raakhahu saramaa |2|29|
O Lord, I seek Your Sanctuary - please, preserve my honor. ||2||29||

ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
tujh bin avar naahee mai doojaa toon mere man maahee |
Without You, there is no other for me; You alone are in my mind.
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਸੰਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਜੀਅ ਡਰਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
toon saajan sangee prabh meraa kaahe jeea ddaraahee |1|
You are my Friend and Companion, God; why should my soul be afraid? ||1||
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਓਟ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਆਸਾ ॥
tumaree ott tumaaree aasaa |
You are my support, You are my hope.
ਬੈਠਤ ਊਠਤ ਸੋਵਤ ਜਾਗਤ ਵਿਸਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
baitthat aootthat sovat jaagat visar naahee toon saas giraasaa |1| rahaau |
While sitting down or standing up, while sleeping or waking, with every breath and morsel of food, I never forget You. ||1||Pause||
ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਵਿਕਰਾਲਾ ॥
raakh raakh saran prabh apanee agan saagar vikaraalaa |
Protect me, please protect me, O God; I have come to Your Sanctuary; the ocean of fire is so horrible.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਮ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਬਾਲ ਗੁਪਾਲਾ ॥੨॥੩੦॥
naanak ke sukhadaate satigur ham tumare baal gupaalaa |2|30|
The True Guru is the Giver of peace to Nanak; I am Your child, O Lord of the World. ||2||30||

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਲੀਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਛਡਾਇ ॥
har jan leene prabhoo chhaddaae |
The Lord God has saved me, His slave.
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਿਉ ਮੇਰੋ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਤਾਪੁ ਮੁਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
preetam siau mero man maaniaa taap muaa bikh khaae |1| rahaau |
My mind has surrendered to my Beloved; my fever has taken poison and died. ||1||Pause||
ਪਾਲਾ ਤਾਊ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥
paalaa taaoo kachhoo na biaapai raam naam gun gaae |
Cold and heat do not touch me at all, when I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਡਾਕੀ ਕੋ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਨਾਇ ॥੧॥
ddaakee ko chit kachhoo na laagai charan kamal saranaae |1|
My consciousness is not affected by the witch, Maya; I take to the Sanctuary of the Lord's Lotus Feet. ||1||
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਭਏ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ਹੋਏ ਆਪਿ ਸਹਾਇ ॥
sant prasaad bhe kirapaalaa hoe aap sahaae |
By the Grace of the Saints, the Lord has shown His Mercy to me; He Himself is my Help and Support.
ਗੁਨ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਨਿਤਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਮਿਟਾਇ ॥੨॥੩੧॥
gun nidhaan nit gaavai naanak sahasaa dukh mittaae |2|31|
Nanak ever sings the Praises of the Lord, the treasure of excellence; his doubts and pains are eliminated. ||2||31||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਅਉਖਧੁ ਖਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ॥
aaukhadh khaaeo har ko naau |
I have taken the medicine of the Name of the Lord.
ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸਿਆ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥
sukh paae dukh binasiaa thaau |1|
I have found peace, and the seat of pain has been removed. ||1||
ਤਾਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਬਚਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ॥
taap geaa bachan gur poore |
The fever has been broken, by the Teachings of the Perfect Guru.
ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਸਭਿ ਮਿਟੇ ਵਿਸੂਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anad bheaa sabh mitte visoore |1| rahaau |
I am in ecstasy, and all of my sorrows have been dispelled. ||1||Pause||
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਗਲ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jeea jant sagal sukh paaeaa |
All beings and creatures obtain peace,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੨॥੩੨॥
paarabraham naanak man dhiaaeaa |2|32|
O Nanak, meditating on the Supreme Lord God. ||2||32||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਬਾਂਛਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁ ਬੇਲਾ ਆਈ ॥
baanchhat naahee su belaa aaee |
That time, which the mortal does not wish for, eventually comes.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਕਿਉ ਬੁਝੈ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੧॥
bin hukamai kiau bujhai bujhaaee |1|
Without the Lord's Command, how can understanding be understood? ||1||
ਠੰਢੀ ਤਾਤੀ ਮਿਟੀ ਖਾਈ ॥
tthandtee taatee mittee khaaee |
The body is consumed by water, fire and earth.
ਓਹੁ ਨ ਬਾਲਾ ਬੂਢਾ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ohu na baalaa boodtaa bhaaee |1| rahaau |
But the soul is neither young nor old, O Siblings of Destiny. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਸਾਧ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
naanak daas saadh saranaaee |
Servant Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Holy.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਭਉ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਈ ॥੨॥੩੩॥
gur prasaad bhau paar paraaee |2|33|
By Guru's Grace, he has shaken off the fear of death. ||2||33||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
sadaa sadaa aatam paragaas |
Forever and ever, the soul is illumined;
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
saadhasangat har charan nivaas |1|
in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, it dwells at the Feet of the Lord. ||1||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਤਿ ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
raam naam nit jap man mere |
Chant the Lord's Name each and every day, O my mind.
ਸੀਤਲ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਜਾਹਿ ਸਭੇ ਮਨ ਤੇਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
seetal saant sadaa sukh paaveh kilavikh jaeh sabhe man tere |1| rahaau |
You shall find lasting peace, contentment and tranquility, and all your sins shall depart. ||1||Pause||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਰਮ ॥
kahu naanak jaa ke pooran karam |
Says Nanak, one who is blessed with perfect good karma,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ॥੨॥੩੪॥
satigur bhette pooran paarabraham |2|34|
meets the True Guru, and obtains the Perfect Supreme Lord God. ||2||34||

dooje ghar ke chautees |

ਜਾ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬੇਲੀ ॥
jaa kaa har suaamee prabh belee |
She who has the Lord God as her Friend
