ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਣਾ ॥
tudh aape kaaran aape karanaa |
You Yourself are the Cause of causes, You Yourself are the Creator.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਜੰਮਣੁ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਮਰਣਾ ॥੨॥
hukame jaman hukame maranaa |2|
By Your Will, we are born, and by Your Will, we die. ||2||
ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਆਧਾਰੀ ॥
naam teraa man tan aadhaaree |
Your Name is the Support of our mind and body.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੩॥੮॥
naanak daas bakhasees tumaaree |3|8|
This is Your blessing to Nanak, Your slave. ||3||8||

ਮੇਰੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਚਾ ਮਿਲਣ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਉ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ॥
merai antar lochaa milan kee piaare hau kiau paaee gur poore |
Deep within me, there is a longing to meet my Beloved; how can I attain my Perfect Guru?
ਜੇ ਸਉ ਖੇਲ ਖੇਲਾਈਐ ਬਾਲਕੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਖੀਰੇ ॥
je sau khel khelaaeeai baalak reh na sakai bin kheere |
Even though a baby may play hundreds of games, he cannot survive without milk.
ਮੇਰੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭੁਖ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਅੰਮਾਲੀ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਭੋਜਨ ਮੈ ਨੀਰੇ ॥
merai antar bhukh na utarai amaalee je sau bhojan mai neere |
The hunger within me is not satisfied, O my friend, even though I am served hundreds of dishes.
ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਪਿਰੰਮ ਕਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰੇ ॥੧॥
merai man tan prem piram kaa bin darasan kiau man dheere |1|
My mind and body are filled with love for my Beloved; how can my soul find relief, without the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan? ||1||
ਸੁਣਿ ਸਜਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਭਾਈ ਮੈ ਮੇਲਿਹੁ ਮਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥
sun sajan mere preetam bhaaee mai melihu mitru sukhadaataa |
Listen, O my dear friends and siblings - lead me to my True Friend, the Giver of peace.
ਓਹੁ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਭ ਬੇਦਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਨਿਤ ਸੁਣਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਬਾਤਾ ॥
ohu jeea kee meree sabh bedan jaanai nit sunaavai har keea baataa |
He knows all the troubles of my soul; every day, he tells me stories of the Lord.
ਹਉ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਾ ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਜਲ ਕਉ ਬਿਲਲਾਤਾ ॥
hau ik khin tis bin reh na sakaa jiau chaatrik jal kau bilalaataa |
I cannot live without Him, even for an instant. I cry out for Him, just as the song-bird cries for the drop of water.
ਹਉ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਲੀ ਮੈ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਕਉ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਤਾ ॥੨॥
hau kiaa gun tere saar samaalee mai niragun kau rakh letaa |2|
Which of Your Glorious Virtues should I sing? You save even worthless beings like me. ||2||
ਹਉ ਭਈ ਉਡੀਣੀ ਕੰਤ ਕਉ ਅੰਮਾਲੀ ਸੋ ਪਿਰੁ ਕਦਿ ਨੈਣੀ ਦੇਖਾ ॥
hau bhee uddeenee kant kau amaalee so pir kad nainee dekhaa |
I have become depressed, waiting for my Husband Lord, O my friend; when shall my eyes behold my Husband?
ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਣ ਵਿਸਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਲੇਖਾ ॥
sabh ras bhogan visare bin pir kitai na lekhaa |
I have forgotten how to enjoy all pleasures; without my Husband Lord, they are of no use at all.
ਇਹੁ ਕਾਪੜੁ ਤਨਿ ਨ ਸੁਖਾਵਈ ਕਰਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਹਉ ਵੇਸਾ ॥
eihu kaaparr tan na sukhaavee kar na skau hau vesaa |
These clothes do not please my body; I cannot dress myself.
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਖੀ ਲਾਲੁ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਤਿਨ ਆਗੈ ਹਮ ਆਦੇਸਾ ॥੩॥
jinee sakhee laal raaviaa piaaraa tin aagai ham aadesaa |3|
I bow to those friends of mine, who have enjoyed their Beloved Husband Lord. ||3||
ਮੈ ਸਭਿ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਅੰਮਾਲੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਏ ॥
mai sabh seegaar banaaeaa amaalee bin pir kaam na aae |
I have adorned myself with all sorts of decorations, O my friend, but without my Husband Lord, they are of no use at all.
ਜਾ ਸਹਿ ਬਾਤ ਨ ਪੁਛੀਆ ਅੰਮਾਲੀ ਤਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਾਏ ॥
jaa seh baat na puchheea amaalee taa birathaa joban sabh jaae |
When my Husband does not care for me, O my friend, then my youth passes, totally useless.
ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਤੇ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਅੰਮਾਲੀ ਜਿਨ ਸਹੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
dhan dhan te sohaaganee amaalee jin sahu rahiaa samaae |
Blessed, blessed are the happy soul-brides, O my friend, who are blended with their Husband Lord.
ਹਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਅੰਮਾਲੀ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਧੋਵਾ ਸਦ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥
hau vaariaa tin sohaaganee amaalee tin ke dhovaa sad paae |4|
I am a sacrifice to those happy soul-brides; I wash their feet again and again. ||4||
ਜਿਚਰੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਸਾ ਅੰਮਾਲੀ ਤਿਚਰੁ ਮੈ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੂਰੇ ॥
jichar doojaa bharam saa amaalee tichar mai jaaniaa prabh doore |
As long as I suffered from duality and doubt, O my friend, I thought God was far away.
ਜਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਮਾਲੀ ਤਾ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਸਭ ਪੂਰੇ ॥
jaa miliaa pooraa satiguroo amaalee taa aasaa manasaa sabh poore |
But when I met the Perfect True Guru, O my friend, then all my hopes and desires were fulfilled.
ਮੈ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇਆ ਅੰਮਾਲੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਸਰਬ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥
mai sarab sukhaa sukh paaeaa amaalee pir sarab rahiaa bharapoore |
I have obtained all pleasures and comforts, O my friend; my Husband Lord is all-pervading everywhere.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣਿਆ ਅੰਮਾਲੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਲਗਿ ਪੈਰੇ ॥੫॥੧॥੯॥
jan naanak har rang maaniaa amaalee gur satigur kai lag paire |5|1|9|
Servant Nanak enjoys the Lord's Love, O my friend; I fall at the feet of the Guru, the True Guru. ||5||1||9||
ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ
ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਅਸਟਪਦੀਆ ॥

ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਧੁਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
sachee baanee sach dhun sach sabad veechaaraa |
True is the Bani of His Word, and True is the melody; True is contemplative meditation on the Word of the Shabad.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹਣਾ ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਵਡਭਾਗ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
anadin sach salaahanaa dhan dhan vaddabhaag hamaaraa |1|
Night and day, I praise the True Lord. Blessed, blessed is my great good fortune. ||1||
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
man mere saache naam vittahu bal jaau |
O my mind, let yourself be a sacrifice to the True Name.
ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਹਿ ਤਾ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
daasan daasaa hoe raheh taa paaveh sachaa naau |1| rahaau |
If you become the slave of the Lord's slaves, you shall obtain the True Name. ||1||Pause||
