ਅਤਿ ਉਜਲ ਅੰਗ ਸੁਰੰਗ ਸੁਭੰ ॥
at ujal ang surang subhan |

With concentrated mind, he was stable at one place in the sky and his limbs were extremely white and pretty

ਨਹੀ ਆਨਿ ਬਿਲੋਕਤ ਆਪ ਦ੍ਰਿਗੰ ॥
nahee aan bilokat aap drigan |
ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਰਹ੍ਯੋ ਗਡ ਮਛ ਮਨੰ ॥੩੬੭॥
eih bhaat rehayo gadd machh manan |367|

His mind was absorbed in the fish and he was not seeing anyone else.367.

ਤਹਾ ਜਾਇ ਮਹਾ ਮੁਨਿ ਮਜਨ ਕੈ ॥
tahaa jaae mahaa mun majan kai |
ਉਠਿ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਨ ਲਗਾ ਸੁਚ ਕੈ ॥
autth kai har dhiaan lagaa such kai |

These the Guru went and took bath and getting up mediated on the Lord,

ਨ ਟਰੋ ਤਬ ਲੌ ਵਹ ਮਛ ਅਰੀ ॥
n ttaro tab lau veh machh aree |
ਰਥ ਸੂਰ ਅਥਿਓ ਨਹ ਡੀਠ ਟਰੀ ॥੩੬੮॥
rath soor athio neh ddeetth ttaree |368|

But that enemy of the fish, concentrated his attention on the fish even till sunset.368.

ਥਰਕੰਤ ਰਹਾ ਨਭਿ ਮਛ ਕਟੰ ॥
tharakant rahaa nabh machh kattan |
ਰਥ ਭਾਨੁ ਹਟਿਓ ਨਹੀ ਧ੍ਯਾਨ ਛੁਟੰ ॥
rath bhaan hattio nahee dhayaan chhuttan |

He remained unwavered in the sky and did not even think of the sunset

ਅਵਿਲੋਕ ਮਹਾ ਮੁਨਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਰਹਿਓ ॥
avilok mahaa mun mohi rahio |
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤ੍ਰਸਵੋ ਕਰ ਤਾਸੁ ਕਹਿਓ ॥੩੬੯॥
gur satrasavo kar taas kahio |369|

Seeing him, the great sage observed silence and accepted him as the Seventeenth Guru.369.

ਇਤਿ ਸਤਾਰਵੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਧੀਰਾ ਸਮਾਪਤੰ ॥੧੭॥
eit sataaravo guroo dudheeraa samaapatan |17|

End of the description of the adoption of the Fishing Bird as the Seventeenth Guru.

TOTAK STANZA

ਕਰਿ ਮਜਨ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗਾਇ ਗੁਨੰ ॥
kar majan gobind gaae gunan |
ਉਠਿ ਜਾਤਿ ਭਏ ਬਨ ਮਧਿ ਮੁਨੰ ॥
autth jaat bhe ban madh munan |

After taking bath and singing the praises of the Lord, the sage went into the forest,

ਜਹ ਸਾਲ ਤਮਾਲ ਮਢਾਲ ਲਸੈ ॥
jeh saal tamaal madtaal lasai |
ਰਥ ਸੂਰਜ ਕੇ ਪਗ ਬਾਜ ਫਸੈ ॥੩੭੦॥
rath sooraj ke pag baaj fasai |370|

Where there were the trees of saal and tamaal and in the dense shade of those trees, the light of the sun could not reach.370.

ਅਵਿਲੋਕ ਤਹਾ ਇਕ ਤਾਲ ਮਹਾ ॥
avilok tahaa ik taal mahaa |
ਰਿਖਿ ਜਾਤ ਭਏ ਹਿਤ ਜੋਗ ਜਹਾ ॥
rikh jaat bhe hit jog jahaa |
ਤਹ ਪਤ੍ਰਣ ਮਧ ਲਹ੍ਯੋ ਮ੍ਰਿਗਹਾ ॥
teh patran madh lehayo mrigahaa |
ਤਨ ਸੋਭਤ ਕੰਚਨ ਸੁਧ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ॥੩੭੧॥
tan sobhat kanchan sudh prabhaa |371|

There the sage a tank and also within the foliage he saw a hunter looking splendid like gold.371.

ਕਰਿ ਸੰਧਿਤ ਬਾਣ ਕਮਾਣ ਸਿਤੰ ॥
kar sandhit baan kamaan sitan |
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਮਾਰਤ ਕੋਟ ਕਰੋਰ ਕਿਤੰ ॥
mrig maarat kott karor kitan |

He had in his hand a bow and arrows of white colour, with which he had killed many deer

ਸਭ ਸੈਨ ਮੁਨੀਸਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਏ ॥
sabh sain muneesar sang le |
ਜਹ ਕਾਨਨ ਥੋ ਤਹ ਜਾਤ ਭਏ ॥੩੭੨॥
jeh kaanan tho teh jaat bhe |372|

The sage came out from that side of the forest alongwith his people.372.

ਕਨਕੰ ਦੁਤਿ ਉਜਲ ਅੰਗ ਸਨੇ ॥
kanakan dut ujal ang sane |
ਮੁਨਿ ਰਾਜ ਮਨੰ ਰਿਤੁ ਰਾਜ ਬਨੇ ॥
mun raaj manan rit raaj bane |

Many persons of the magnificence of gold,

ਰਿਖਿ ਸੰਗ ਸਖਾ ਨਿਸਿ ਬਹੁਤ ਲਏ ॥
rikh sang sakhaa nis bahut le |
ਤਿਹ ਬਾਰਿਧ ਦੂਜ ਬਿਲੋਕਿ ਗਏ ॥੩੭੩॥
tih baaridh dooj bilok ge |373|

Accompanied the sage Dutt and they all saw that hunter.373.

ਰਿਖਿ ਬੋਲਤ ਘੋਰਤ ਨਾਦ ਨਵੰ ॥
rikh bolat ghorat naad navan |
ਤਿਹ ਠਉਰ ਕੁਲਾਹਲ ਉਚ ਹੂਅੰ ॥
tih tthaur kulaahal uch hooan |

Those sages raised thunderous sound an dreadful tumult at that place and

ਜਲ ਪੀਵਤ ਠਉਰ ਹੀ ਠਉਰ ਮੁਨੀ ॥
jal peevat tthaur hee tthaur munee |
ਬਨ ਮਧਿ ਮਨੋ ਰਿਖ ਮਾਲ ਬਨੀ ॥੩੭੪॥
ban madh mano rikh maal banee |374|

Scattering at various places they began to have their food and drink.374.

ਅਤਿ ਉਜਲ ਅੰਗ ਬਿਭੂਤ ਧਰੈ ॥
at ujal ang bibhoot dharai |
ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ ਨ੍ਯਾਸ ਅਨਾਸ ਕਰੈ ॥
bahu bhaat nayaas anaas karai |

Those sages smeared their white bodies with ashes, practiced various postures and

ਨਿਵਲ੍ਰਯਾਦਿਕ ਸਰਬੰ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਏ ॥
nivalrayaadik saraban karam kee |
ਰਿਖਿ ਸਰਬ ਚਹੂੰ ਚਕ ਦਾਸ ਥੀਏ ॥੩੭੫॥
rikh sarab chahoon chak daas thee |375|

Performed various Karmas like Neoli (Purging of intestines), while wandering in all the four directions.375.

ਅਨਭੰਗ ਅਖੰਡ ਅਨੰਗ ਤਨੰ ॥
anabhang akhandd anang tanan |
ਬਹੁ ਸਾਧਤ ਨ੍ਯਾਸ ਸੰਨ੍ਯਾਸ ਬਨੰ ॥
bahu saadhat nayaas sanayaas banan |

They absorbed themselves in various practices completely without the element of lust

ਜਟ ਸੋਹਤ ਜਾਨੁਕ ਧੂਰ ਜਟੀ ॥
jatt sohat jaanuk dhoor jattee |
ਸਿਵ ਕੀ ਜਨੁ ਜੋਗ ਜਟਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀ ॥੩੭੬॥
siv kee jan jog jattaa pragattee |376|

Their matted locks appeared the manifestation of the matted locks of Shiva.376.

ਸਿਵ ਤੇ ਜਨੁ ਗੰਗ ਤਰੰਗ ਛੁਟੇ ॥
siv te jan gang tarang chhutte |
ਇਹ ਹੁਇ ਜਨ ਜੋਗ ਜਟਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ॥
eih hue jan jog jattaa pragatte |

Their Yogic matted locks waved like the waves of the Ganges emanating from Shiva

ਤਪ ਸਰਬ ਤਪੀਸਨ ਕੇ ਸਬ ਹੀ ॥
tap sarab tapeesan ke sab hee |
ਮੁਨਿ ਜੇ ਸਬ ਛੀਨ ਲਏ ਤਬ ਹੀ ॥੩੭੭॥
mun je sab chheen le tab hee |377|

They performed various kinds of austerities following the practices of earlier ascetics.377.

ਸ੍ਰੁਤ ਜੇਤਿਕ ਨ੍ਯਾਸ ਉਦਾਸ ਕਹੇ ॥
srut jetik nayaas udaas kahe |
ਸਬ ਹੀ ਰਿਖਿ ਅੰਗਨ ਜਾਨ ਲਏ ॥
sab hee rikh angan jaan le |
