ਦੂਤ ਤਬੈ ਬੈਰਮ ਪਹਿ ਆਯੋ ॥
doot tabai bairam peh aayo |
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਅਧਿਕ ਰੋਸ ਉਪਜਾਯੋ ॥
taa ko adhik ros upajaayo |
The emissary came to Bairam and demonstrated his anger.
ਬੈਠਿਯੋ ਕਹਾ ਦੈਵ ਕੇ ਖੋਏ ॥
baitthiyo kahaa daiv ke khoe |
ਤੋ ਪੈ ਕਰੇ ਆਰਬਿਨ ਢੋਏ ॥੪॥
to pai kare aarabin dtoe |4|
‘You, the unlucky one, are sitting idle and the enemy is here with his guns.’(4)
ਬੈਰਮ ਅਧਿਕ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਡਰਿਯੋ ॥
bairam adhik bachan sun ddariyo |
ਆਪੁ ਭਜਨ ਕੋ ਸਾਮੋ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥
aap bhajan ko saamo kariyo |
Bairam was scared and decided to run away,
ਤਦ ਚਲਿ ਤੀਰ ਪਠਾਨੀ ਆਈ ॥
tad chal teer patthaanee aaee |
ਤਾ ਸੋ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਚਹੌ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥੫॥
taa so kahiyo su chahau sunaaee |5|
Then the Pathani came forward and said to him,(5)

ਤੋਰ ਪਿਤਾ ਐਸੋ ਹੁਤੋ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਨਾਮ ॥
tor pitaa aiso huto jaa ko jag mai naam |
‘Your father was renowned all over the world,
ਤੂ ਕਾਤਰ ਐਸੋ ਭਯੋ ਛਾਡਿ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮ ॥੬॥
too kaatar aiso bhayo chhaadd chaliyo sangraam |6|
‘But you are so coward that you are running away from fight.’(6)

ਅਪਨੀ ਪਗਿਯਾ ਮੋ ਕਹ ਦੀਜੈ ॥

ਮੇਰੀ ਪਹਿਰ ਇਜਾਰਹਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥

‘Give me your turban and take my shalwar, the trousers. ‘When I
ਜਬ ਮੈ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਤਿਹਾਰੋ ਧਰਿਹੌ ॥
jab mai sasatr tihaaro dharihau |
ਟੂਕ ਟੂਕ ਬੈਰਿਨ ਕੇ ਕਰਿਹੌ ॥੭॥

Wear your clothes, I will cut the enemy off’(7)
ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਪਤਿਹਿ ਭੋਹਰੇ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
yau keh patihi bhohare deeno |
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਛੀਨਿ ਆਯੁਧਨ ਲੀਨੋ ॥
taa kai chheen aayudhan leeno |
After declaring as such, she put her husband in the dungeon.
ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਾਧਿ ਨਰ ਭੇਖ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
sasatr baadh nar bhekh banaayo |
ਪਹਿਰਿ ਕਵਚ ਦੁੰਦਭੀ ਬਜਾਯੋ ॥੮॥
pahir kavach dundabhee bajaayo |8|
She armed herself, disguised as a man and wearing arm our she beat the war-drums.(8)

ਸੈਨ ਸਕਲ ਲੈ ਕੈ ਚੜੀ ਸੂਰਨ ਸਕਲ ਜਤਾਇ ॥
sain sakal lai kai charree sooran sakal jataae |
With the army, she raised, she displayed her power and declared,
ਬੈਰਮ ਖਾ ਮੁਹਿ ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਕੌ ਬੀਰਾ ਦਯੋ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥੯॥
bairam khaa muhi bhrit kau beeraa dayo bulaae |9|
‘Bairam Khan has deputed me to fight for him.’(9)

ਸੈਨਾ ਸਕਲ ਸੰਗ ਲੈ ਧਾਈ ॥
sainaa sakal sang lai dhaaee |
ਬਾਧੇ ਗੋਲ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਆਈ ॥
baadhe gol saamuhe aaee |
She raided through her army and rounded the enemy forces.
ਬੈਰਮ ਖਾ ਇਕ ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥
bairam khaa ik bhrit patthaayo |
ਮੋ ਕਹ ਜੀਤਿ ਤਬ ਆਗੇ ਜਾਯੋ ॥੧੦॥
mo keh jeet tab aage jaayo |10|
And (she disguised as) Bairam Khan senta massager, ‘First win me before you proceed further.’(10)
ਯੌ ਸੁਨਿ ਸੂਰ ਸਕਲ ਰਿਸ ਭਰੇ ॥
yau sun soor sakal ris bhare |
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਕੈ ਆਯੁਧੁ ਧਰੇ ॥
bhaat bhaat kai aayudh dhare |
Hearing this, all the soldiers flew into the rage,
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਘੇਰਿ ਦਸੌ ਦਿਸਿ ਆਏ ॥
taa ko gher dasau dis aae |
ਤਾਨਿ ਕਮਾਨਨ ਬਾਨ ਚਲਾਏ ॥੧੧॥
taan kamaanan baan chalaae |11|
And they encircled with arrows in their bows.(11)

as faasee dhar sipar lai guraj gufan lai haath |
ਗਿਰਿ ਗਿਰਿ ਗੇ ਜੋਧਾ ਧਰਨਿ ਬਿਧੈ ਬਰਛਿਯਨ ਸਾਥ ॥੧੨॥
gir gir ge jodhaa dharan bidhai barachhiyan saath |12|

ਲਏ ਹਾਥ ਸੈਥੀ ਅਰਬ ਖਰਬ ਧਾਏ ॥
le haath saithee arab kharab dhaae |
ਬੰਧੇ ਗੋਲ ਹਾਠੇ ਹਠੀ ਖੇਤ ਆਏ ॥
bandhe gol haatthe hatthee khet aae |
The spears in the hands, they came and rounded the enemy.
ਮਹਾ ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਬਾਲ ਕੇ ਤੀਰ ਢੂਕੇ ॥
mahaa kop kai baal ke teer dtooke |
ਦੁਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਤੇ ਮਾਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਰਿ ਕੂਕੇ ॥੧੩॥
duhoon or te maar hee maar kooke |13|
In fury they showered arrows on the lady, and the killing spread in every direction.(13)

ਛੋਰਿ ਨਿਸਾਸਨ ਕੇ ਫਰਰੇ ਭਟ ਢੋਲ ਢਮਾਕਨ ਦੈ ਕਰਿ ਢੂਕੇ ॥
chhor nisaasan ke farare bhatt dtol dtamaakan dai kar dtooke |
Waving the flags, they followed the drum beats.
ਢਾਲਨ ਕੌ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਕਰ ਭੀਤਰ ਮਾਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਰਿ ਦਸੌ ਦਿਸਿ ਕੂਕੇ ॥
dtaalan kau geh kai kar bheetar maar hee maar dasau dis kooke |
Bolding shields they shouted, ‘Kill them, kill them.’
ਵਾਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਬਹੇ ਕਈ ਬਾਰ ਗਏ ਛੁਟਿ ਕੰਚਨ ਕੋਟਿ ਕਨੂਕੇ ॥
vaar apaar bahe kee baar ge chhutt kanchan kott kanooke |
Raids after raids, produced fire sparks,
ਲੋਹ ਲੁਹਾਰ ਗੜੈ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਰਿ ਉਠੈ ਇਕ ਬਾਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਨਾਰਿ ਭਭੂਕੇ ॥੧੪॥
loh luhaar garrai jan jaar utthai ik baar trinaar bhabhooke |14|
Like the ones produced at the battering (of hot iron) at the ironsmith.(14)
