ਤਬ ਤਿਹ ਕਾਢਿ ਹਾਥ ਪੈ ਲਯੋ ॥
tab tih kaadt haath pai layo |
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਚੁਕਾਇ ਸੂਆ ਉਡਿ ਗਯੋ ॥
drisatt chukaae sooaa udd gayo |
Then she took it (the parrot) out and sat it on her hand but, escaping her looks, it flew away,
ਜਾਇ ਰਿਸਾਲੂ ਸਾਥ ਜਤਾਯੋ ॥
jaae risaaloo saath jataayo |
ਖੇਲਤ ਕਹਾ ਚੋਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਯੋ ॥੫੧॥
khelat kahaa chor grih aayo |51|
And went to Rasaloo and told, ‘A thief had come to your house.’(51)
ਯੌ ਸੁਨਿ ਬੈਨਿ ਰਿਸਾਲੂ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
yau sun bain risaaloo dhaayo |
ਤੁਰਤੁ ਧੌਲਹਰ ਕੇ ਤਟ ਆਯੋ ॥
turat dhaualahar ke tatt aayo |
Learning this Rasaloo walked fast and reached the palace immediately.
ਭੇਦ ਕੋਕਿਲਾ ਜਬ ਲਖਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
bhed kokilaa jab lakh paayo |
ਸਫ ਕੇ ਬਿਖੈ ਲਪੇਟਿ ਦੁਰਾਯੋ ॥੫੨॥
saf ke bikhai lapett duraayo |52|
When Kokila learnt this, she wrapped around (the other Raja) a mat and hid him away.(52)
ਕਹਿਯੋ ਬਕਤ੍ਰ ਫੀਕੌ ਕਿਯੋ ਭਯੋ ॥
kahiyo bakatr feekau kiyo bhayo |
ਜਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਹੁ ਲੂਟਿ ਸਸਿ ਲਯੋ ॥
jan kar raahu loott sas layo |
‘Why is your face getting pale, as if god Rahu has squeezed light out of Moon?
ਅੰਬੁਯਨ ਕੀ ਅੰਬਿਆ ਕਿਨ ਹਰੀ ॥
anbuyan kee anbiaa kin haree |
ਢੀਲੀ ਸੇਜ ਕਹੋ ਕਿਹ ਕਰੀ ॥੫੩॥
dteelee sej kaho kih karee |53|
‘Where has gone the pinkish sparkle of your eyes? Why is your bedding become slack?’(53)

ਜਬ ਤੇ ਗਏ ਅਖੇਟ ਤੁਮ ਤਬ ਤੇ ਮੈ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਇ ॥
jab te ge akhett tum tab te mai dukh paae |
(She replied) Since the time you went out on hunting, I have been living in adversity.
ਘਾਯਲ ਜ੍ਯੋ ਘੂੰਮਤ ਰਹੀ ਬਿਨਾ ਤਿਹਾਰੇ ਰਾਇ ॥੫੪॥
ghaayal jayo ghoonmat rahee binaa tihaare raae |54|
‘I have been rolling around like an injured person.(54)

ਬਾਤ ਬਹੀ ਅੰਬਿਯਨ ਲੈ ਗਈ ॥
baat bahee anbiyan lai gee |
ਮੋ ਤਨ ਮੈਨੁਪਜਾਵਤਿ ਭਈ ॥
mo tan mainupajaavat bhee |
‘Such a wind blew that slipped my mattress out and put in me an urge for love-making.
ਤਬ ਮੈ ਲਏ ਅਧਿਕ ਪਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
tab mai le adhik pasavaare |
ਜੈਸੇ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਸਾਯਕ ਕੇ ਮਾਰੇ ॥੫੫॥
jaise mrig saayak ke maare |55|
‘I whirl around like an injured baby of a deer.(55)
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਲਰੀ ਮੋਤਿਯਨ ਛੂਟੀ ॥
taa te laree motiyan chhoottee |
ਉਡਗ ਸਹਿਤ ਨਿਸਿ ਜਨੁ ਰਵਿ ਟੂਟੀ ॥
auddag sahit nis jan rav ttoottee |
‘My pearly necklace is broken. The Moonlit night is destroyed by the Sun rays.
ਹੌ ਅਤਿ ਦਖਿਤ ਮੈਨ ਸੌ ਭਈ ॥
hau at dakhit main sau bhee |
ਯਾ ਤੇ ਸੇਜ ਢੀਲ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਈ ॥੫੬॥
yaa te sej dteel hvai gee |56|
‘Without making love 1 am distressed and, consequently, my bed is slackened.(56)

ਤਵ ਦਰਸਨ ਲਖਿ ਚਿਤ ਕੋ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਯੋ ਸੋਕ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
tav darasan lakh chit ko mitt gayo sok apaar |
‘Seeing you, now, all my anxiety has diminished,
ਜ੍ਯੋ ਚਕਵੀ ਪਤਿ ਆਪਨੇ ਦਿਵਕਰ ਨੈਨ ਨਿਹਾਰ ॥੫੭॥
jayo chakavee pat aapane divakar nain nihaar |57|
‘And I am beholding you the way the bird chakvi gets absorbed in the Moon.’(57)

ਯੌ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਨੀ ਬਰਮਾਯੋ ॥
yau raajaa raanee baramaayo |
ਘਰੀਕ ਬਾਤਨ ਸੋ ਉਰਝਾਯੋ ॥
ghareek baatan so urajhaayo |
Thus Rani cajoled Raja with domestic sweet-talk,
ਪੁਨਿ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਾਰੋ ॥
pun taa sau ih bhaat uchaaro |
ਸੁਨੋ ਰਾਵ ਜੂ ਬਚਨ ਹਮਾਰੋ ॥੫੮॥
suno raav joo bachan hamaaro |58|
And then said, ‘Listen to me my Raja,(58)
ਹਮ ਤੁਮ ਕਰ ਮੇਵਾ ਦੋਊ ਲੇਹੀ ॥
ham tum kar mevaa doaoo lehee |
ਡਾਰਿ ਡਾਰਿ ਯਾ ਸਫ ਮੈ ਦੇਹੀ ॥
ddaar ddaar yaa saf mai dehee |
‘We both will eat the sultanas and then throw them towards the mat.
ਹਮ ਦੋਊ ਦਾਵ ਇਹੈ ਬਦ ਡਾਰੈ ॥
ham doaoo daav ihai bad ddaarai |
ਸੋ ਹਾਰੈ ਜਿਹ ਪਰੈ ਕਿਨਾਰੈ ॥੫੯॥
so haarai jih parai kinaarai |59|
‘We both will aim at the centre and one who hits the edge will lose.’(59)

ਤਬ ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨ ਮੇਵਾ ਲਯੋ ਐਸੇ ਬੈਨ ਬਖਾਨਿ ॥
tab duhoonan mevaa layo aise bain bakhaan |
Deciding upon this, they took sultanas.
ਚਤੁਰਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਤਿ ਚਿਤ ਹੁਤੋ ਇਹੀ ਬੀਚ ਗਯੋ ਜਾਨਿ ॥੬੦॥
chatur nripat at chit huto ihee beech gayo jaan |60|
Raja was very intelligent and he had envisaged the secret,(60)

ਤਬ ਰਾਜੈ ਇਹ ਬਚਨ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥
tab raajai ih bachan uchaaree |
ਸੁਨੁ ਰਾਨੀ ਕੋਕਿਲਾ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
sun raanee kokilaa piaaree |
And he said, ‘Listen, my beloved Kokila Rani,
ਏਕ ਹਰਾਇ ਮ੍ਰਿਗਹਿ ਮੈ ਆਯੋ ॥
ek haraae mrigeh mai aayo |
ਕੰਪਤ ਬੂਟ ਮੈ ਦੁਰਿਯੋ ਡਰਾਯੋ ॥੬੧॥
kanpat boott mai duriyo ddaraayo |61|
‘I have just defeated a deer and, dreaded, it is hiding in the bushes.’(61)
ਹੌਡੀ ਬਾਤ ਮੂੰਡ ਇਹ ਆਨੀ ॥
hauaddee baat moondd ih aanee |
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਪੈ ਕਰਿ ਕੋਕਿਲਾ ਪਛਾਨੀ ॥
mrig pai kar kokilaa pachhaanee |
When Raja told her this, she accepted that Raja was really talking about the deer.
